Rim Runner
Speedrunning game where you are the wheel.
Rim Runner is a 3D precision-physics time attack. Keep the wheel upright, lean it into every turn, land it clean on its tread and shave another 0.05 seconds off your best. A clean landing gives you speed back; a sloppy one costs it. R restarts in an instant: fail, retry, 0.05 seconds better.
Ten levels lead from Rolling Start, a first level that teaches you the basics one at a time (each under a sign with its key, ticked off as you do them), to the Summit, which asks for all of them: balance pipes, half-pipe walls, vents that lift you, shutters and sweepers on the race clock, bobsleigh ice, rebound towers and a loop. Bronze opens the next level; the ceiling is the other players.
The Tower. Twenty floors straight up, each its own skill: narrow ledges, plateau jumps, trampolines, ice, sweepers, a zigzag lane and a gauntlet before the top. No checkpoints: fall off the inside and you land a floor down, fall off the outside and you start again. More courses wait in the extras.
Race everyone. Your best run, three rivals at the medal times and the fastest players online all ride along as ghosts, each in their own wheel. The online boards show your rank and percentile, and the fastest time on a level wears the record crown.
Build your own. The map editor builds with the same parts as the campaign: pieces snap together, every obstacle can be tuned, and one key test-drives your track. Publish it once you've driven it under its own Elite time.
Make it yours. Rims, finishes, tire colours, treads, glows, light trails and crowns, earned by playing.
This is an early build (0.9) and I'm new to making games. I'd love to hear what you think, what's fun and what to fix, your best time on the Skill Tower (Level 4, Elite is 13.8 s) and how high you get in The Tower.
Free while it's in testing. If you enjoy it, a small donation helps me keep building. Everyone who donates now gets the full game free when it launches.
Controls
- Mouse: steer (aim where you want to go)
- W / S: gas / brake and reverse (in the air: further / shorter)
- A / D: tilt into a turn (in the air: sideways)
- Space: jump (tap for a small hop, hold for a big one)
- Backspace: back to the last checkpoint
- R: restart, Esc: pause, F4: map editor
- No mouse (a trackpad)? Settings > Steering > Keyboard: A / D or the arrows steer, the wheel tilts into the turn by itself, Q / E lean further.
- Every key can be changed in Settings; controllers work too.
Online: the leaderboards keep the name you choose in Settings, your times and your runs (as ghosts). No account, no e-mail.

Has potential but I can't play it with a trackpad mouse easily. Would you consider allowing a WASD or arrows only mode?
Thanks! I tried WASD before but i noticed that steering with the mouse and leaning with A and D works better. I will tweak it and add it back as an option in the next update let me know what you think and thanks for the feedback!
